PEEK is a thermoplastic and is considered an advanced biomaterial. PEEK melts at around 350°C (662°F) and is highly resistant to thermal degradation. The material is also resistant to both organic and aqueous environments. PEEK also exhibits good chemical resistance in many other environments, including alkalis (i.e. sodium, potassium and ammonium hydroxides), aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols (i.e. ethanol, propanol), greases, oils and halogenated hydrocarbons.
There are different forms of PEEK available for different applications. Such as carbon reinforced PEEK, glass infused PEEK, and virgin PEEK to name a few.
USES:
PEEK is used in bearings, piston parts, pumps, compressor plate valves, and cable insulation applications. It is one of the few plastics compatible with ultra-high vacuum applications. The large temperature range of PEEK makes it a very useful product in the electrical circuitry industry.
Examples: At Ktech Manufacturing, we machine a variety of different types of parts from the various grades of PEEK material. Contact us for more examples of parts machined from PEEK.
