Aluminum is a good electrical conductor: it is ductile and can be readily cast and machined. Several properties set aluminum apart from other metals, here are three:

1. It is lighter than all other engineering metals except magnesium and beryllium (Aluminum has a density of about 0.1 lb / in3 )
2. Aluminum has about 60% of the conductivity of pure copper. Because of its lower density, aluminum has a higher conductivity than copper per unit mass.
3. Aluminum has excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance.
